Lampang Rajabhat University (LPRU.) was originally founded as “Lampang Teachers College” on 9 June 1971, situated at 119 Lampang – Mae Tha Road, Muang District, Lampang Province. The college officially began by offering the Certificate of Education in 1972, followed by the Higher Certificate of Education in 1973.  On 14 February 1992, His Majesty the King graciously conferred the title “Rajabhat” to all Teachers College in Thailand. Consequently, Lampang Teachers College was elevated to “Lampang Rajabhat Institute” according to the Rajabhat Institute Act of 1995 which thereby brought changes to the institute in several ways including the extension of the institute’s academic services to post-graduate levels.

Later on 14 February 2004, the Rajabhat University Act of 2004 was approved thereby Lampang Rajabhat Institute was upgraded to “Lampang Rajabhat University” under the Commission of Higher Education, Ministry of Education. Consequently, Lampang Rajabhat University currently offers the Bachelor’s, Master’s and Doctoral Degrees.

Since Lampang Rajabhat University is a large institution located in Lampang province, it aimed to provide the academic services for supporting the need of local people in order to strengthen the local community. As a result, the university’s philosophy was set to be “A University for Local Development” in accordance with its identity to produce “Volunteer Spirit Graduates” which are the graduates who are willing to help improving their hometowns and voluntarily serve their local communities. Therefore, all courses and programs are implemented by integrating the instructions, researches and academic services to the cultural preservations and community developments with goals to produce qualified graduates to return to their hometowns with confidence to work for the society and with pride and recognition of themselves as well as their communities.
